Comparing the John Deere 1025R vs. the Kubota BX2670 Tractors

There are many similarities between the John Deere 1025R Compact Utility Tractor and the Kubota BX2670 Utility Tractor.  If you’re in the market for a new sub-compact tractor, you might be torn between the 1025R and the Kubota BX2670.  If you’re not sure which sub-compact tractor is best for you, here is a guide to help you decide.

 Performance:

The first and most obvious difference between the John Deere 1025R and the Kubota BX2670 is the size difference.  The 1025R features a 47″ tread width and a 57″ wheel base dimension, compared to the 44.5″ x 55.1″ Dimension of the Kubota BX2670.  The 1025R also weighs over 100 pounds more than the BX2670.  This added stability and weight helps to give you a smoother ride and more support while operating heavy implements.deere sizekubota size

If you’re going to be using your sub-compact tractor for mowing, then it’s important to consider which mowing deck will offer the best cut quality.  John Deere 1-Family tractors utilize the same 60″, 7-Iron Mower Deck that is used on John Deere commercial lawn and garden tractors.  These decks feature a 6″ depth, which makes mowing faster, improves cut quality, and reduces buildup of grass underneath the deck.  On the other hand, the BX2670 deck is only available in 4″ or 5″ depths.

Usability:

Another important thing to keep in mind when choosing between the 1025R and the BX2670 is ease of use.  You’re probably going to be spending a lot of time operating your tractor, which means you want to maximize operator comfort and usability.  This is where John Deere shines.  John Deere has put a lot of thought into small details that other companies simply haven’t thought about.  These “small details” can make or break your entire experience.  Here are just a few of the ways John Deere puts the user first.

  • John Deere’s deluxe suspension seat offers a high seat back and movable armrests for maximum comfort and support.
  • The 1025R features an adjustable steering wheel for maximum comfort, while the BX2670’s steering wheel is fixed.
  • The 1025R comes standard with a toolbox and offers more storage room than the BX2670.
  • All John Deere 1 Family tractors come standard with a fender worklight to offer better visibility while working at night.
  • The 1025R fuel fill location is easily accessible, while the BX2670’s fuel fill location is tucked behind the grab handle, which makes filling up the tank a pain.

Uptime:

You definitely want an easy to use tractor that will save you time.  John Deere 1025R tractors feature an independent mower lift system, which allows you to use front, mid, and rear implements all at once!  This means no more wasted time spend removing attachments when you need to switch from job to job.  On the Kubota BX2670, users need to remove the rear implement in order to mow.

jd_autoconnect_mower_deckThe John Deere 1025R also features an AutoConnect Mower Deck.  This awesome feature allows you to attach the mower deck in a matter of minutes — without having to leave the seat!  In order to attach the deck on a BX2670, the operator needs to park next to the deck, slide it under the tractor and attach it by hand.  The average attach and remove time for the BX2670 is almost 20 minutes, compared to the 4.5 minutes it takes to attach and remove the John Deere AutoConnect Deck.

If you’re going to be using a loader, it’s important to look at the performance and usability of both the John Deere and Kubota loader.  The H120 loader is the loader made specifically for John Deere 1 Family tractors.  It features John Deere’s own QuikPark Mounting System, which makes attaching a loader incredibly simple.  In only requires you to dismount the tractor once, and you don’t even need any tools!  On the other hand, Kubota’s loader requires more steps and time to install.

Along with the QuikPark Mounting System, the John Deere H120 loader also has a higher lift capacity (825 pounds, compared to Kubota’s 745 pound lift capacity), more bucket size options, and over 300 pound more breakout force.

Let’s not kid ourselves — when it comes to choosing between the 1025R and the Kubota BX2670, cost probably ranks fairly high on the list of priorities.  Although the 1025R typically costs a little more than the BX2670, John Deere has gone above and beyond to keep the cost of operation at a minimum.   Here are just a few of the ways the 1025R can make your dollar go farther.

  • The 1025R features a polymer hood and fenders, which means that John Deere hoods are virtually unbreakable.  On the other hand, Kubota uses a thin, metal hood that is prone to rust, scratches and dents.
  • If you ever hit an object, such as a stump, components in front of the axle are the first to be damaged.  Because of this, John Deere placed the steering cylinder safely out of the way, behind the axle.  Kubota’s steering cylinder is located right in front of the axle, which increases the risk for costly repairs.
  • John Deere 1 Family tractors require much less maintenance than the BX Series.  John Deere servicing is less costly and also easier to service, which means less time in the shop.

Although the John Deere 1025R and the Kubota BX2670 have many similarities, there are a few key differences that make the 1025R stand out above any other tractor. John Deere’s increased performance, usability, and uptime make the 1025R is a better investment.  It has the capability to handle everything you throw at it, all while making your life much easier.
